Why a threaded pegboard beats a standard one

1. Born from KittaParts. ThreadBoard grew out of the threaded fixing system we spent years developing for KittaParts, our modular shelving. Once we had a threaded hole that worked, the obvious next step was to put it everywhere — eventually an entire sheet of plywood, threaded wall to wall.

2. The problem with standard pegboard. A standard pegboard hole is a plain round hole, and the peg is a loose dowel. Dowel diameter drifts in manufacturing and it's hard to control once you're buying it in bulk. Too loose and the peg — and whatever's sitting on it — slides forward, slopes, or eventually falls out. Too tight and you're wrestling it in and out every time you rearrange.

3. The fix. Threading the hole solves both problems at once. The peg and the hole are cut to the same machined tolerance, every time, so you get the same solid engagement whether it's the first hole on the board or the thousandth. Shelves sit flat and perpendicular. Nothing creeps forward under load.

4. Every hole, CNC machined. The thread is cut across the full sheet on our CNC, not drilled by hand, so the precision holds panel to panel.

Where people put ThreadBoard
  • Entryways and mudrooms. Coats, hats, school bags — the most common home setup.
  • Galleries and museums. A display system you can reconfigure as the show changes.
  • Noticeboards. Community and studio noticeboards that need to flex over time.
  • Above a desk. Keeps everyday things up and off the work surface.
  • Architecture and design studios, reception areas. A wall surface that's genuinely multi-purpose, not just decorative.

It holds real weight, too. For an Australia Post installation, we hung a 50 kg antique set of scales, in a custom-built box, off a run of ThreadBoard pegs.

Pegs and accessories

Pegs and accessories are made in-house so they engage properly with the thread, and we're always adding to the range. Standard pegboard hooks won't work on ThreadBoard, since the whole system relies on the peg screwing into the hole rather than dropping in.

If you've got a 3D printer, the system is open enough that people design and print their own hooks, bins and fittings that engage with the thread properly. We're happy to see it.

Working out how many pegs and accessories you need, and where to put them, is the part people find hardest. The ThreadBoard Builder covers standard and custom panel sizes and works out exactly what to order before you buy.

Material

ThreadBoard is Australian grown Hoop Pine plywood, finished with a water-based clear coat, not painted MDF or stamped metal. Warmer to look at, heavier in the hand, and it takes the thread cleanly.

Common questions
How do ThreadBoard pegs attach?

They thread in rather than dropping into a plain hole. Screw the peg in and it locks to a machined tolerance, so it sits firm instead of rattling loose or sinking under weight.

What's the difference between ThreadBoard and a standard pegboard?

Standard pegboard relies on a dowel peg dropping into a round hole. Because dowel diameter isn't perfectly consistent, the fit varies — sometimes sloppy, sometimes seized. ThreadBoard machines the peg and the hole to match, so engagement is the same every time.

What can I hang on a ThreadBoard? How much weight will it take?

Plenty. We've hung a 50 kg antique set of scales, in a custom box, off ThreadBoard pegs for an Australia Post installation. For everyday use — tools, art, bags, kitchenware — it's built for real load, not just light decor.

Can I use standard pegboard hooks on it?

No. The system relies on the peg threading into the hole, so it needs a ThreadBoard peg or accessory. We keep expanding the accessory range, and if you're set up with a 3D printer, you can design and print your own hooks and fittings that engage with the thread.

How do I work out what pegs and accessories I need?

Use the ThreadBoard Builder. Pick a standard or custom panel size and it works out exactly what accessories you need and where they go, so you're not guessing before you order.

What's the hole spacing on ThreadBoard?

A 100 × 100 mm grid across the panel.

Can ThreadBoard be custom sized?

Yes. Standard panels are on the ThreadBoard collection; custom dimensions are quoted individually. Large panels, around 2 m, may need a separate freight quote rather than standard courier. Message Jem with rough width, height, and how you plan to mount it.

How do I mount ThreadBoard to a wall?

Wall-mounted boards use a split batten system. Fixings for the board itself are included where listed on the product page. Fixing into your wall — plaster, brick, studs — depends on your site, so message Jem if you're unsure.

Do you ship Australia-wide?
